In the summer of 2020, a trial was conducted by the Slovak Research Institute of Agroecology (VUA) at a potato farm near the city of Kosice. HUMAC® Agro was applied to the test group at a rate of 500 kg / ha with all other parameters being equal. The growing conditions were characterized by an abundance of rain and relatively mild weather. Potatoes were collected in early September and send for analysis to the laboratory for testing with the results listed in the table. In addition to reduced heavy metal content, quality parameters we’re improved.

Another trial conducted by the Research Institute of Agroecology on a 2.5 ha plot. In addition to the moderate to significant reduction of heavy metals content in the test group strawberries over the control group, yield was increased by 29 % per ha and dry matter content was higher by 12% for the test group. Furthermore, the root system was much more developed and the rate of photosynthesis was increased in the test group over the control group.

Contaminated soil samples were collected and used by the Research Institute of Agroecology for an ex-situ trial using various humic acids formulas and a control group to evaluate the ability of humic acids to bind PCB substances in soils and reduce their bioavailability to crops. The purpose of this experiment was to determine how to immobilize toxins in soil without disrupting agricultural production.

Decidious Spruce (Larix Decidua)
Recultivation experiment of iron-ore
tailings landfill in Nižná Slaná, Slovakia - 2020
The landfill contains waste from ore processing in the region with an estimated volume of 5.5 million cubic metres, the retention wall itself is about 95 meters high. In the past, several experiments have been carried out to determine whether it is possible to cover the exposed area with vegetation to prevent the spread of harmful dust particles. Our associates at HUMAC Environment asked the local mayor if they could test our humic acid formula on a small plot of the 12.5 ha exposed landfill. HUMAC Agro along with grass seedlings was applied to an area of 15 m2. A month later, the site was revisited with grass growing in the test area. Samples were collected and sent to an accredited laboratory for analysis.

Remediation of aluminum sludge spill in Ajka, Hungary – 2010
On the 4th of October 2010, the tailings pond from the MAL aluminum production plant collapsed and released around 700,000 cubic metres of highly alkaline red aluminum sludge in the area. It was considered the worst industrial disaster in Hungarian history. After various testing of different solutions, on the 10th of November, Hungarian authorities approved the large-scale application of Leonardite from the Dudarit mine for the remediation of the affected area. This decisions stemmed from the tests conducted on site using Leonardite which showed the neutralization of pH values of 13 -14 down to 7.6 in a 24 hour period. Furthermore, on the 10th of October another trial was conducted, this time on cereals. Select cereal plots (rye, flax) were treated with Leonardite from the Dudar mine. As the pictures indicate, cereals sown in the plots treated with the humic substances already started to germinate.
